A slice task
A task’s page shows one piece of a slice’s work, in one repository. Click a task’s title on a slice’s page or on the Slices tab, or its key anywhere it’s named. The task opens in a tab of its own beside Slices.
Claude Code and Codex build tasks for the person they work for, over Emargen’s connection. The agent claims the task and builds it in the repository. When it’s done, it closes the task, and links its merge request if there is one. You can’t claim or close a task on this page. How the agents do it is in Building slices.
The owner of ACM-293 opens ACM-368, which a colleague is building with Claude Code.
- ACM-368. The task’s tab. Its × closes the tab.
- In progress. The task’s state. On a closed task you see the day it closed, and Ready · unclaimed on one nobody has claimed.
- Quote. Puts the task in your message box, to ask the agent about it.
- Comment. Opens the comments beside the chat, on this task.
- ACM-295. The slice it’s part of, and its place in it: task 3 of 8. Click the key to open the slice.
- Details. What the task builds, as the agent wrote it when it broke the slice into tasks.
- Claimed by. Who claimed it, and with which coding agent. The Repository sits above, the day it was Claimed below.
A closed task
Section titled “A closed task”The page shows when the agent closed it, and any merge request it linked. In the picture, ACM-300, a task of another initiative, was closed the day it was claimed.
- Merge request. Opens what the agent linked when it closed the task, here a commit, in a new tab.
- Blocks. The tasks that needed this one first.
A blocked task
Section titled “A blocked task”A task that’s blocked can’t be claimed until what blocks it is closed. In the picture, ACM-369, the button in the portal, waits on two tasks in the sign-in service.
- Unclaimed. Nobody can claim it yet.
- Blocked by. The tasks that must close first, and where each stands.
More on a task
Section titled “More on a task”Some tasks show one more line or section:
- Found while working on. The task the agent was building when it found this one.
- Subtasks. When an agent splits a task, its subtasks are listed, each with a page naming the task it sits under.
- Moved from. The slice the task belonged to before a re-cut.
If a change request opened the task, Details gives the request’s key.
Access
Section titled “Access”Everyone who can open the initiative reads its tasks, quotes them into their own chat and comments on them. Coding agents claim and close tasks for the person they work for. See Building slices.
