A Landscape entry
You add an entry to the Landscape here, or change one. To add an entry, open its kind on the Landscape and click its New button, like New system. To change one, click it and then Edit.
Open the Landscape (opens Emargen in a new tab)Changing an entry
Section titled “Changing an entry”An approver at ACME opens identity-service, one of its systems, with Edit. The page is called Edit system. For the other kinds it’s Edit person or role, or Edit term.
- The trail is Workspace, Landscape, then the page. Landscape goes back to the kind you came from.
- Name. What the entry is called. No two entries of a kind share a name.
- Definition. What it is, in a sentence or two. It can hold bold, italics and a bulleted list.
- Also called. Other names people or the code use. Add a name, then type one and press Enter or a comma. × on a name takes it away.
- Under. Where it belongs: one of the kind’s groups, or an entry it’s part of, or Nothing.
- Repositories. For a system, the repositories its code lives in, from the ones your organisation has added. They show in the Landscape’s Code column.
Under lists the kind’s groups first, each marked Group, then its entries, each with the group it’s in. Pick an entry, and this one goes in that entry’s group.
The foot of the page:
- Cancel. Goes back to the Landscape without changing anything.
- Save. For someone who may approve Landscape changes, the change applies at once. The entry’s History records it.
- Remove. Asks you to confirm, then takes the entry out. The agents stop using it. What they already wrote keeps the name it used.
Adding an entry, as a member
Section titled “Adding an entry, as a member”In the picture, a sales engineer at ACME adds a role, Agency driver. A customer wants depot managers to approve agency drivers for one shift. The sales engineer is a member, so their page has one more section, Reason, and ends in Send.
- Name. The new entry’s name.
- Definition. What it is.
- Reason. Why it belongs in the Landscape, shown to whoever approves it.
- Send. Sends it for approval, once the entry has a name and a definition.
Send makes a proposal and takes you back to the Landscape. An approver decides it from Waiting for approval or Decisions. Until then, the entry stays off the Landscape and the agents don’t use it. A member’s change or removal waits the same way.
A system’s page also has Code, where you pick its Repositories. With no repositories added yet, it says “No repositories yet. Add them in Admin.”
The workspace agent on the left can fill the page in for you. Ask it, in your own words, to add a term or describe a system. What it fills in is marked “Drafted”. Nothing is sent or saved until you press Send, Save or the button on the agent’s card in the chat.
Access
Section titled “Access”Everyone in the organisation adds and changes entries here. For people whose role lets them approve Landscape changes, such as administrators, the page ends in Save and applies at once. For everyone else it ends in Send and waits for approval. See Add to the Landscape.
